2008 – The “A” Races.

.

Triathlons

In typical Dan fashion I am sure this post will be all over the place. But for 2008 the main focus is going to be Triathlons. And I have two races that will be my main focus and I will fill in the schedule with some other local sprint Tri’s. The furthest Tri in distance is going to be Black Bear.

Black Bear will be a Half Ironman distance. For the non tri people out there (I see my Uncle Jack has been following the blog) that is swim 1.2 miles, cycle 56 miles and then run a ½ marathon (13.1 miles). I wish this race was later in the year but I can't change that so this will take place June 1st. The allure of this race is that it is only minutes from Jim Thorpe Pa. and I have an uncle that has a house up there (uncle Fred is battling some health issues right now but I hope he is well enough to come see me race). I think I can get some other family members (Uncle Jack) to come up as well. My only goal of this race is to finish in the time limit, I say this on Jan 6th and honestly I hope that my goal changes and I set a little time goal as I get closer to the race.

The 2nd “A” race will be NJ State Olympic Distance Tri. This is later in July and I have not set a goal yet, but I will certainly be setting some realistic time goals as the race gets closer. Both these races are put on by CGI Racing who from what I hear put on great races.

The sprints that I will do most likely will come from DQ, and no that is not Dairy Queen, those are the Tri’s I used to compete in.

Running

I again will try to get in the lottery for the ING NYC Marathon. It’s a goal and I just have to do it someday. If I was to get in it is in November and I would know about it in July so I would start the training right after the NJ State Tri. That would give me 3+ months to get ready and I hope to be at a much better fitness at that point. If I do not get in to NYC I am still considering doing Steamtown Marathon in the Fall. But we will see about that. Check out the elevation chart for the Steamtown Marathon. Now that is my kind of race.

Exciting times ... June 1st ... that's only a 20+ week training block away :)

... and then maybe the marathon after that. That is an aggressive race plan :) Good stuff!

Good luck with your goals in 2008!

The NJ State Tri is a couple of miles from my new house. I hope to watch it this year.

An all downhill marathon......now that sounds like my kind of race.

May the force (of gravity) be with you...

Steamtown reminds me of the St. GeorgeUtah marathon. If you trip, you could roll for 2-3 miles. Good luck with the plans, the tri's and races sound great.

I plan to apply for NYC too. Let's cross our fingers.

Looks like a strong plan, Dan. Is Baltimore (relay/half/full) still a possibility?

Nice. I'm so not worthy. :D

BTW, my number was 15 but I have only one at home and sometimes that is more than I can handle!!

Dan, you should try AC, close to home very flat, but....... it is boring

Awesome goals Dan! I want to do a HIM too, but just don't know if I will be ready to swim 1.2 miles by summer, ugh! Can't wait to read the race report.

The Black Bear HIM looks like a tough course. At least the swim will be flat! Good luck and training starts NOW!

Dan, good luck with the Half Iron. As for your time, its your first Half, just aim to finish who knows what the day will bring. I am sure you will blow your time away.
