Quick update

Last week I got in 25.25 miles of running which puts me back on pace for 1000 miles for the year. That is good.

I did no Biking or Swimming for the week. I think until I actually go over 1000 miles that will be the norm for me.

Eating is good during the week up until about 9 pm and then I hit the left over candy. And the weekends are pretty bad with eating.

I only had to add 25 cents to the jar yesterday. Of course I was at work and only saw the kids for a few hours so that helped.

Have a soccer dinner tonight with Liam and then I will hit the gym for some treadmill miles (fun).

That's it for now.

The 4 letter word..

Yes it has come to this my friends. My kids and Kim have instituted the Swear Jar. I now have to put in a quarter every time the kids hear me say the dreaded word. "We" set this up yesterday and there is now $1.00 in the jar. Kim told them when it gets to $50.00 they can buy a new Wii game.

Truth be told I should not be saying the word as it sounds so unintelligent and worse than that my 7 year old son has started saying it now. So I will now attempt to stop saying "AIN'T".

Yes I know it is not one of the 7 words that you can't say on television but like I said I need to stop to set a better example. They do love catching me though and they do want to get to $50.00. Kim told them that I have to say it 200 times to equal $50.00 so now they keep asking how many more times does daddy have to say it?

So I promise that I ain't (will not) say it any more. Do I owe a quarter for that?

Chart says a 1000 words.

.

My run yesterday.

Hard to read this is how it went.

1. About a 1.25 miles in I ran into a guy from www.exercisefriends.com and talked for a minute.

2. About mile 3.5 miles stopped to cross a street. And then shortly felt some stomach pains.

3. About 4.25 miles in had to walk and then made a mad dash into the woods. Walked a little after that episode and then started running again.

4. Actually had a pretty good last few miles after that.

Finding inspiration from others.

.
Meet Steve. This is his before picture.

Some may know of Steve Bezner already but if you have not had the chance to check out his blog please take a look and you will want to read about his weight loss and running success. And to hold the suspense you will have to check out his blog for yourself to see the after picture.

For me I find inspiration that Steve is on the verge of qualifying for THE Boston Marathon. Steve has to work out an issue with his hydration but even with hitting the wall he just ran a 3:31:11 marathon. Although I have come to terms with the fact I will never BQ I do hope to someday run a marathon. I have a long way to go but there is hope.

Please go check him out and check out his transformation and wish him well in his future races.

Maybe 200 will be better

.
I have not blogged in a week. Not because I have nothing to say but because I was sitting on my 100th post. And I wanted to have some big things to write about. Truth be told in waiting for the great inspiration to hit me I have passed up so many other things that would have been good to write about. So that being said I am putting 100 behind me and just do what I normally do talk about nothing important (kind of kidding).

Swim

Nothing last week.

Cycling

Again nothing to report.

Running

I had a pretty good week in getting in 23.25 miles. That sounds ok for me but truth be told I was at 19.25 miles going into Sunday and planned on a 10 mile long run. I procrastinated and put it off to the afternoon. Well rain came in the afternoon and I went to the gym for the treadmill. I hate the treadmill and settled for a 4 mile run instead of my 10 mile scheduled run. In my only defense we were at a wedding Saturday night and got home at 2am and I was the designated driver and had to do the 2 hour drive while Kim and her parents got to sleep. That's what I get for not drinking.

Oh I should also add that I got in an AM run last week. I have said before I would like to run in the morning but I find it hard getting out too early to do so.

No races for the rest of the year with the exception on Browning Ross Series on Sunday afternoons starting in December. If you have read my blog for a while this is the same run I did during the summer on Thursday nights.

Eating

Again good days and bad days. Well more like good morning and afternoon's and bad evenings.

What else is going on? I look forward to participating in the 8 on the 8th. This is running 8 miles on December 8th and is being organized by Nancy and Vickie.

Also I did my 5.5 miles for Ryan on Saturday.

That is it for now but I have to say I am glad to get my 100th post out of the way. And I will use the rest of the week to talk about everything else I didn't get to talk about last week.

Just checking in.

.
As previously mentioned we were in Baltimore from Thursday to Saturday morning. We had a great time as we visited the National Aquarium, the Science Museum, and a few other places. I think the kids liked the pool in the hotel just as much as all the other things we did.

Swimming

Nothing to report. (edit 11/14) Swam in pool with kids for a few hours. But no real laps to talk about.

Cycling

Nothing to report.

Run

Thursday I got in 6.25 miles before we left for Baltimore. No running while in Baltimore (yeah there was a treadmill there I just chose not to use it. Sunday I got in 5.5 miles but I cut it off early because we were going to my nieces Baptism and thought we were leaving earlier then we did. So I was a little bummed that I didn't do 8 or more. But oh well. I got in 19.5 for the week and considering no run Friday or Saturday I will take it.

Eating

Hey I was on vacation for a few days so as you could imagine I didn't eat all that great. I will attempt to get back on the wagon this week and more importantly stay on the wagon.

Life

We were happy to learn that our daughter no longer needs speech therapy. She was not enjoying having to go every week. Her brother and sister never poked fun at her but I think she was feeling different when she had to go. That's tough as a parent when one of your kids doesn't want to do something but you know it is the best thing for her. But the speech therapist and her teacher both agree that she no longer needs the extra help. She did great with it and really came a long way in the 10 months of therapy.

Blogging

Well I am happy to say I think I am all caught up on all my back blogs. Yeah I had to SKIM some but I think I am all caught up now (I had 140 when I got back from Baltimore). I still need to leave some comments but all and all my "Google Reader" is clean.

I told you he would ROCK that course.

.
Mike G. just finished the 70.3 World Championship in 4:10:27. Not sure when he will get to the race report but you can bet it will be well worth reading. Great race Mike.

Happy Hump Day

.
Swim

Nothing at all to report. I am just concentrating on getting back on track with the running miles and getting ahead of the Pace Bunny (you will see the bunny later).

Cycling

See swimming above. I did get my trainer last week and it is very nice, VERY NICE. I have tested it but no serious workouts on it yet. Amazingly Kim didn't agree with me that it is fine in the family room. So WE agreed that it would go to the Theater Room. I plan to get some of these cycling DVD's so will be pretty cool using the trainer with some cycling DVD's on the 92 inch TV.

Running

As I said above I am catching the Pace Bunny. If you use Running Ahead you can join different groups and one group I am in is the 1000 miles for 2007. And they have a cool chart where you can see how you are doing and if you are on pace. Earlier in the year I was way ahead of pace and then I slowly lost my cushion and then after the 1/2 marathon took too much time off and fell behind the bunny by about 40 miles or so. But I have been catching him and I am currently only 14 miles behind. He adds about 2.8 miles a day and I plan on doing about 6 miles tomorrow so I should make another dent.

Monday was no workout (never is) and Tuesday and Wednesday were both 4 mile treadmill runs.

Eating

The Halloween candy is winning the battle but I am doing OK with the main meals. I will try not to do too much damage over the next few days (you will soon here about those days).

Life

Since Kim and the kids are off from work and school Thursday and Friday I took 2 vacation days and we are headed to Baltimore for for a few days. We will visit the Baltimore Aquarium and a few other KID places. I will run tomorrow morning before we leave and we will be returning Saturday afternoon so I should only miss Friday and to be honest it is not that uncommon for me to make Friday a rest day anyway.

Blogging

I use Google Reader for all the blogs I follow. Let me just say I have a lot of blogs that I lurk so I am currently at a back log of about 40. But with not much checking over the next two days I am sure I am going to be over 100 that I will have to get caught up with.

Tri Teammate

I have mentioned Mike before but his weekend is finally here. Mike will be racing in the IM 70.3 World Championship in Clearwater Florida on Saturday. If you get a chance check out his Sunday post it is a must read for Triathlete's as he gives you his PRE RACE REPORT.

Part Of My 15 Minutes Of Fame

.
About a month or two ago I decided since I was approaching my 2 year anniversary from making life changes that I would email the local paper and let them decide if they wanted to do a story on me. Friends encouraged me to send the email so I said what the heck maybe it could help motivate someone out there get healthy.

A few weeks later I got an email back from Kaelin O'Connell who said they would be interested in talking to me. So we met and two weeks later here is the finished product from the meeting.

Let me give proper credit here and say that Kaelin is a Feature Writer for the Gloucester County Times in South Jersey.

For what it is worth I will tell you I am very happy with final product and thought that Kaelin did a great job with it. Also I would like to thank J-Wimm for contributing to the article. You will see her comments if you get a chance to read.

Happy Birthday To Me

Yes, 39 years ago today I was born to Dan and Helen. Sister Tara was only 14 months older and would later have a second sister Laura born 7 years after me.

So I originally (months ago) wanted to run NYC Marathon on my birthday but after not getting in on the lottery I figured I would still try to run a race. I found The Bridge Run and signed up for it. This was actually my first official 10K. So at the very least I was guaranteed a PR. My last post I said I was hoping for 55. Well 55 would have been me running the race of my life and after posting that I had wished I said 57-58 minutes. Two things worked against me in this race. 1. I ran 8 miles on Saturday because I wanted to get the miles in, and two I do no hill workouts at all and this was going up and down a big bridge twice. But enough with the complaining.

I picked up Bill (a very fast runner in my town) and we drove to the race and were there real early. I was meeting a few other runners from Runners World Forum (one had my race packet). After finding them I walked to the start with them (about a 1/2 mile). We lined up and off we went. We started at the base of the bridge so we had an immediate incline that last about .75 mile. Then down the other side to a quick turn around and back up again. The 2nd incline really slowed me down and took a little out of me. But what ever at the bottom of the bridge we were about half way done and I was at about 30 minutes. So at this point I needed (wanted) water. Turned a corner and there was the water stop, but there was no more water left. So kept on going. I was going OK for the rest of the way, turns out there was another water stop at about mile 5 that had plenty of water. I took some but would have really liked it two miles back. The race finished in a minor league baseball field which was kind of cool. Home of the Camden River Sharks in Campbell's Field. Turning into the field I knew I was close to 1 hour and thought I had a chance of breaking 1 hour but it was not to be. My chip time was 1:00:30 so I have a PR now and will hope to break 1 hour in my next 10K.

Kim was there with the kids and they all had signs. Kim's was the best it said "39 and looking fine"

Rest of the day was busy as we had soccer and Kim's mom had my Birthday Dinner. Caitlyn scored 2 goals for me today. I told her she must have a great coach (yes I am the coach).
